"Reply to this thread with your thoughts and impressions from this historic day." We had a fantastic little rally. Small but ROWDY. Lots of supportive honking and cheering from passersby. But the BEST part was when the Bloomington Transit Hybrid Bus driver stoped at our Day of Decision Rally to hand us oragami peace cranes made out of RAINBOW PAPER. Absolutely Incredible! He stopped on our corner (by the courthouse) and did this 3 or 4 times! I ask you is there ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE MIDWEST MORE LGBT FRIENDLY THAN BLOOMINGTON INDIANA?! Only in Bloomington! One of the best places in the country for LGBT people to live! We have the 5th largest LGBT population per capita in the US! Our rally was a rowdy morale booster and this was the best morale booster of all! The public was extremely supportive as only they can be in our town - honking, giving us thumbs up and yelling support. Bicyclists rang bells and waved. Only 3 or 4 rednecks giving us the thumbs down or finger. We need to do this more often! Watch my short video of this incredible act of support HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fym-Hy5ppCM

Unfortunately I can't make it to the closest protest down in San Diego tonight (poochie injured his eye), but did just post an open letter to the GLBTQ community on my blog,http://socalmuchacha.wordpress.com/, along with Courage Campaign's "Fidelity" video, and several links--inluding DOD info.
I'm beyond disappointed and disillusioned by the Court's decision today, and mystified by the logic in saying that some of my GLBTQ friends are still considered married, yet others aren't allowed to marry...I don't get it.
What I do know, though, is that I'm in this fight with you, as are many other straight folks, so just let us know what is needed and we'll be there. Well, that is unless our beloved pooch has an injury. ;)
Take care and let your voices be heard tonight...but PLEASE stay safe! :)

Day of Decision by L.S. Kove
As we wait, Everybody is still having a debate. Don't they know there is only so much more we can take, Cali Justices do not hesitate. It is our time for victory, Make this one of the proudest moments in US history. You've done it right before, Now is our time for one more. Do it for Harvey, And our awesome activist army. We are primed, So many obstacles we've completely climbed. We recall that you know, Supporting civil rights is what our Constitution must ultimately show. Placing a minority's rights on a ballot takes so much away, Our pursuit for loving and committed relationship happiness is here to stay. Give it to us now or pay later, Our tenacity will never waiver. We are here to stay, We are not going away. Stonewall 2.0, Not gonna go. Here to stay, Not going away. Cali Justices we pray, That you recognize these are our civil rights & you cannot betray. Not putting up with marriage apartheid, This separate and unequal needs to be fried. We wait, There is nothing more to debate. Marriage is a civil right, It is within your grasp & our sight. Make the right decision, Do it with precision. Don't give a campaign based on lies and distortions power, Once our civil rights are brought back it will be equality's finest hour. Let the history books reflect, That the sanctity of individual freedom you did protect.

RE: Creative Writing About Day of Decision

Dear Greg, May 25, 2009
If you were still living, I would ask you tomorrow to marry me. We never thought this day would come, when two men who love each other could legally marry in California. We were from an age when such a thing was unthinkable. But tomorrow, May 26, if the California Supreme Court gives same-sex couple the right to marry, I will come to you in meditation and ask you to marry me. I hope our love can be consummated in marriage, even in your death.
It never even crossed our mind during those 15 years were companions, that it would be possible for two men to marry legally. But we were in our own hearts wed to each other. I remember that wonderful day, on our first date on January 20, 1993. I lay with my head on your chest, listening to your heart beating, when I heard your speaking solemnly to me. You were making a vow to me. My heart leapt. You ended your vow with the words “til death do us part.” My heart pounded. I lost my breath, made a quantum leap into a world of dreams, where a burst of light struck my soul. I accepted, returning the pledge, using your same words. That world of dreams turned real and beautiful. Love creates real worlds.
We kept those vows until the moment you died on Sep. 29 2007, at 2:15 pm. Our hearts were wed together, and my heart is still wed to yours. You are gone from the Earth, but not from my heart and mind. But our love transcends time and worlds -- so tomorrow I hope to ask you to accept my offer of marriage. I hope you can accept.
In the world of Love, Time does not exist. In the world of Love we can transcend into the past to create the dreams of the present -- dreams which create the realities of the future. In the world of Love we can create those priceless moment that the world of the present denied us in the past.
I embrace you and carry you always in my heart.
Joe
